Alienware is introducing a new gaming laptop that includes never before seen specs on a 17-inch option. The Alienware m17 R5 features a 480Hz display and AMD Smart Technologies, which the brand says mix to make it one of the most powerful AMD Advantage laptops on the market.
The 480Hz refresh rate offers the highest display speeds available on gaming laptops. Also coupled with the latest AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT 12GB GDDR6 GPU, the Alienware m17 R5 is stuffed with the latest market specs.
The AMD Smart Technologies on the Alienware m17 R5 include AMD SmartShift Max, which boosts optimizes GPU and APU power where it is needed the most; AMD Smart Graphics, which allows for ideal frame rates, while optimizing latency and battery power, AMD Smart Access Memory, which maximizes the power of the Radeon graphics card memory; and AMD FreeSync Premium, which reduces tearing and and allows display to maintain quality at set frame rate.
The gaming laptop features a 17.3-inch FHD display with a 480Hz refresh rate, 300-nits max brightness and, 100% sRGB color gamut. Other display features include ComfortView Plus, AMD Free Sync Premium Or NVIDIA G-SYNC.
It has processor options including the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H and AMD Rzyzn 9 6900HX, and RAM options between 8GB DDR5 4800MHz and 64GB Dual-Channel DDR5 4800MHz, that are supported in two 2x DDR5 SO-DIMMs slots.
Single storage options on the laptop range between 256GB PCle NVMe M.2 SSD and 4TB (2x 256GB PCle NVMe M.2 SSD). It’s double storage options range between 512GB PCle NVMe M.2 SSD and 4TB (2x 2TB PCle NVMe M.2 SSD).
Its standard battery is a 64Whr cell with the option for a 97Whr cell. Power adapter options include 180W standard, and 240W.
Ports on the Alienware m17 R5 include a 2.5Gbps Ethernet Port, 1Gbps Ethernet Port, and global headset jack on the left, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 power save on the right, and Power/DC-in port, USB 3.2 Gen 2, 15W (3A/5v) Power Delivery and Display Port 1.4, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and HDM1 2.1 output port on the back.
The laptop features a “Dark side of the moon” finish and runs Windows 11 (64 bit) or Windows 11 Pro for software.
The Alienware m17 R5 is currently available for North American markers selling for $2,799.99.
The brand is also offering a 480Hz refresh rate option for its Alienware x17 R2 17-inch ultra thin gaming laptop for an additional $300 of the base price of the 165Hz model.
