Qualcomm is already one of the leading silicon makers in terms of powering hardware, but the company is now delving into cloud computing, having teased its Cloud AI 100 chip at its AI Day press conference on Tuesday. The chip is expected to direct cloud computing and communicate with data processing centers in order to execute functionalities on a number of different device form factors.

While Qualcomm hasn’t given much detail on the Cloud AI 100, the chip is expected to begin circulating to product makers during the second half of 2019 with device availability scheduled for 2020. Qualcomm will share more details about chip before the end of the year, likely at its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit in December.

The Cloud AI 100 will power cloud based functions including personal assistants, translations, fraud detection, medical scans, advanced image search, and personalized content. Qualcomm did share that the chip was created with a 7nm process node and will support software stacks, such as PyTorch, Glow, TensorFlow, Keras, and ONNX. Some partners already working with the chip include Facebook and Microsoft.
