Availability for the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is quickly expanding after its initial launch on the Verizon network in May. AT&T and Sprint will also offer the 5G smartphone as they build out their 5G networks.
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G on Sprint
Sprint will release the Galaxy S10 5G June 21 as its latest next-gen device after recently announcing its first 5G cities, which include Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Kansas City. The carrier will also soon deploy 5G to Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington D.C., giving access to over 11.5 million people.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is currently available for preorder for $0 down and $40.28 per month for 18 months through Sprint’s Flex Lease program. The full retail price of the handset is $1,299. Customers must also subscribe to Sprint’s Unlimited Premium plan to get 5G service. The top-tier plan sells for $80 per month and includes perks, such as free subscriptions to Amazon Prime, Hulu and Tidal.
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G on AT&T
AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is also available as of Monday, however, its initial release is limited to business customers and developers. The device is available for $999.99 coupled with AT&T’s $90 per month Business Unlimited Preferred plan. Business customers can contact their AT&T account representatives to purchase the device.
AT&T hasn’t yet begun its public 5G deployment, but there is limited access to the network in 19 U.S. cities, including Austin, Nashville, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose, most recently. AT&T originally launched its 5G network in late 2018 in 12 cities but got flack for marketing the brand “5G Evolution”, or 5GE, which denotes network speeds approaching 5G but strictly defined as such.
Another caveat to AT&T’s 5G network is that it limits speeds to 2Gbps when 5G can max out, practically, at about 10Gbps. However, the carrier notes that improved speeds may come in the future. AT&T’s next-gen network is built on a technology that is slightly different from the network defined as 5G. Still, the carrier says building out its network is a continuous endeavor.
There is no word on when the Galaxy S10 5G will be available to the general public. However, reports suggest that AT&T may launch a device in late 2019, possibly the Galaxy Note 10, which may support proper 5G speeds on a proper 5G network.
