The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium finally has a price and a release date after being unveiled back in April. Sony’s super premium smartphone will be available starting July 30th for a whopping $999.99 with pre-orders starting July 9th at Amazon and Best Buy. Those who pre-order the device from Amazon get it bundled with a free pair of Xperia Ear Duo wireless headphones, which are valued at $279.99.
The highlight features on the Xperia XZ2 Premium are its 4K HDR display and4K HDR video recording capability. Many rival devices will have either 4K HDR feature but not both at the same time. This has likely contributed to the eye-watering price of the smartphone.
Sony is well-known as a camera supplier for other smartphone manufacturers and the Xperia XZ2 Premium features an in-house dual-lens camera featuring a 19-megapixel color sensor and a 12-megapixel black-and-white sensor. Sony pumped some new tech into the camera, which it claims reduces noise to levels typically not seen on smartphone images and improves low-light photography. The camera is also able to capture super-slow-motion video in 1080p resolution. The device features a 13-megapixel front-facing, wide-angle camera.
Other specs on the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium include its only 5.8-inch 4K HDR display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage with MicroSD support up to 400GB, dual-SIM support, and a 3,540mAh battery with Qi fast-wireless charging support.
The device is rated IP68 water-resistant and includes a rear-facing fingerprint sensor, surround sound speakers, high-res audio and runs Android Oreo with PlayStation 4 remote playback support.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium will be available in Chrome Black and Chrome Silver color options.
