“iPhone X color options are easily Apple’s best 2018 feature”

Apple may make color options a highlight feature on the iPhone X when it announces new models later this year. Respected Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo indicates the manufacturer will release its 2018 super premium flagship in up to seven options including black, white, gold, grey, red, blue, and orange.

Apple is expected to introduce two new iPhone X models in 2018. There will likely be a 6.5-inch “iPhone X Plus” model available in black, white and gold color options and a 6.1-inch iPhone X 2018 update model available in grey, white, blue, red, and orange color options.

The two new models will join the original 2017 5.8-iPhone X, which is currently available in silver and black color options.  It is not clear whether the current model will get a color upgrade.

Apple will be in somewhat of a slump in its supercycle after unveiling a completely new design, in addition to new hardware and software features on the iPhone X last year. This won’t stop consumers from purchasing new devices, but fans will have to sit tight for several generations before the iPhone sees any major design changes. Eventually, the iPhone 6 to iPhone 8 design will likely be cycled out of Apple’s lineup — unless the iPhone SE picks it up. Apple smartphones will soon be synonymous with top-notches and full-screen displays with no home button.

Highlight features will likely come in the form of performance boosts, slightly larger batteries, new software features and camera tweaks. Recent reports suggest the 2019 iPhones may include up to three lenses in its main camera setup.

For now, Apple will likely put an emphasis on color. Popular YouTube reviewer Marques Brownlee noted in a recent video that while most smartphone manufacturers use new color options to drum up renewed interest in their products, Apple takes a slightly different approach. Off-cycle releases will get funky new colors to differentiate the latest iPhone, while most other style features remain the same. This is why the iPhone 6s was available in rose gold after the iPhone 6 redesign, and the iPhone 7 had exclusivity to the Jet Black color option.

The new iPhones receive upgrade through the upcoming iOS 12 software. They will also feature Apple’s TrueDepth front-facing camera, meaning they will have features such as FaceID and Animoji creation, which were previously exclusive to the original iPhone X. Newer iPhone X models will also likely mean the price of the original iPhone X will drop, making it a more viable option for Apple fans, regardless of its color.
