“IFA News 2018: Top Products Announced So Far”

IFA 2018 is in full swing and a considerable amount of tech has been showcased on just the first press day. The conference doesn’t officially begin until Friday, but there have already been highlights in gaming, computers, and audio. Here’s what is looking interesting to us at IFA so far.

Acer

Acer has announced a host of products at IFA, but the most eye-catching is easily its Predator Thronos gaming chair. At first glance, in images, the contraption seems like a very oddly shaped VR headset, but when you focus you realize its a cockpit, which supports up to three 27-inch monitors at a time, such as the Predator X35 and Predator XB3. The station is compatible with Acer’s line of Predator gaming desktops, including Predator Predator X, Predator Orion 9000, Predator Orion 5000 and Predator Orion 3000, as well as the Predator Triton 900 gaming laptop. There are currently no pricing or availability details for the chair.

Acer also showcased several accessories and monitors for its Nitro casual gaming line, including a backpack, mouse, mousepad, keyboard, and headset. Other products announced include the PL/SL Series outdoor projector and the Acer OJO 500 VR headset.

Several of Acer’s computing lines have seen refreshed products, including the Spin 5, Spin 3, and Spin 1 convertible laptops, the Aspire 7, Aspire 5, and Aspire 3 laptops and the Swift 5 and Swift 3 laptops, as well as the Aspire Z24 monitor, which includes smart assistant support, such as Cortana and Alexa.

Casio

Casio introduced its latest ProTrek F30 rugged smartwatch, equipped with the latest version of Google’s WearOS and a $549 price tag. Casio claims the watch has enough battery power to run its color screen for up to three days in extended mode. The ProTrek F30 will be available in black, blue, and orange color options between late 2018 and early 2019.

Bang & Olufsen

Bang & Olufsen brought out all the stops to IFA with its latest audio products. It’s $3,500 Beosound Edge wireless speakers are so striking they may actually be worth the price. The metallic, circular frame of the speaker system is not only but stylish but also functional. Users can roll the speaker across a surface to turn its volume up or down. The speaker can be mounted on a wall or laid flat on surfaces as well. The Beosound Edge includes a new “Active Bass Port” technology, which is yet to be patented, which may contribute to its lofty price tag. The speakers can also connect to Chromcast.

Bang & Olufsen also announced its Beoplay E6 headphones at IFA, which are available for $300. Intended as sports headphones, the Beoplay E6’s earpieces are made of silicone with B&O branded plates on the front and upper tabs to secure the headphones in users’ ears. Its cable is over in a rope-like material, which would hopefully make them rugged enough for physical activity. The headphones come in black, sand, and dark plum color options, the latter of which is a special edition model that will release September 13.
