Xiaomi’s latest smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 released yesterday running Android 9 Pie. Now the Chinese manufacturer has shared plans to get its older devices up to date with the latest Android software.
Xiaomi has already updated a number of smartphones to Android Oreo, and a handful of models are now running Android Pie. The manufacturer will be testing the Android Pie software for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, and Xiaomi Mi Max 3 during the fourth quarter of 2018. Check out the table of Xiaomi’s Android update progress below.
The percentage of smartphones running Android Pie currently is not great enough to show up on Google’s Android distribution chart, but there are a number of devices already running the latest software. These include the entire Google Pixel line, the Essential Phone, The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T, the latter which will be announced Monday, several Sony devices, and a handful of Xiaomi devices, including the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 8, and Xiaomi Mi 8 EE.
Updates are also expected from manufacturers including Oppo, Vivo, and Nokia. Many of these device markers are apart of Google’s Project Treble program, which aims to bring the latest Android updates to devices as soon as possible.
Samsung isn’t apart of Project Treble, but reports indicate the Galaxy S9 devices and the Galaxy Note 9 could update to Android Pie in January 2019. This schedule is typical for Samsung has it usually begins updating devices before its next flagship its launched with the latest Android system running out of the box. There are already Galaxy S10 rumors swirling around the internet, but there isn’t yet a tentative release date for the device.
