Xiaomi may be ready to take the accolade for the coolest foldable phone design if a recently shared video leak is to be believed.

Tech informant, Evan Blass shared Thursday a short clip of a device that first appears to be a tablet, until the user folds each side back to look more like a phablet-sized smartphone.

The device is running Google Maps and the app adjusts to fit the smaller screen as the device is folded back. However, the demo was done in the dark, likely hiding any defining details about the product. Blass notes that the details about the device and its affiliation with Xiaomi are not certain.

There have been some murmurs that Xiaomi may be working with LG’s display sector to supply foldable screens for future foldable devices. But currently, there are no further details about a Xiaomi-branded foldable phone. Often, Chinese manufacturers love to leap ahead of upcoming trends, as we’ve seen with the FlexPai foldable phone by the brand Royole. Xiaomi seems to be in an interesting space right now as it attempts to appeal more to U.S. consumers.

As the year progresses, consumers are sure to see many more details about foldable phones from several brands. Some brands, such as Lenovo, have also suggested plans to use foldable displays on devices that are not branded as phones. While often not considered, it is already common for tablets to run on LTE, which allows them to have a SIM card, which can be associated with a phone number.
