The Meizu Zero is a very interesting smartphone concept with no holes, ports, or buttons, and to get a hold of one, buyers will have to contribute $1,299 to the company’s Indigogo campaign.
The Chinese manufacturer, Meizu teased its smartphone concept last week and has confirmed that it will need a little bit more than brains to bring this device to life. Meizu is currently looking to raise $100,000 to produce 100 Meizu Zero units. So far, 19 people have purchased the Exclusive Engineer Unit, and one person has purchased an Exclusive Pioneering Unit for $2,999. There here is currently no information on what makes the more expensive model different.
There is also no word on how Meizu plans to move forward if the company meets its goal and is able to move forward with production. The most logical suggestion would be that the manufacturer would ramp up production and have a public launch of the Meizu Zero. The Indigogo campaign concludes at the end of the month and if successful, backers should expect to get their devices in April. Pundits have noted that since Meizu is a legitimate smartphone maker, those participating in the crowdfunded project should feel comfortable that they will receive a device. Still, there is always a risk.
Joining several manufacturers in the race to launch the most unusual phone in 2019, the Meizu Zero is slated to feature an eSIM to enable mobile connectivity, an in-display fingerprint sensor, display embedded speakers, wireless charging, and various squeeze and haptic feedback technology to take the place of physical buttons.
There is no word on whether Meizu will showcase prototypes of the device at MWC 2018 in late February, but
