While we continue waiting for an edit button on Twitter, Facebook Messenger will now allow users to unsend messages on the messaging platform.
The feature, called “Remove for everyone” gives users up to 10 minutes to retract a message sent in one-on-one or group chats. According to Facebook, the feature is intended for instances such as when users send a message to the wrong chat, or if they simply want to take back a message. The feature will be available for both iOS and Android devices.
How to remove messages from Facebook Messenger
The function is very simple. Users need only tap the message they wish to remove and select the “Remove for everyone” option when it comes up. If you remove a message it will be replaced by a receipt indicating that the message was deleted.
Users should keep in mind that even if a message is removed from a chat, doesn’t mean that it is gone forever. Facebook will keep a record of deleted messages and other users will still be able to report harmful messages through the receipt left in the chat. Currently, there is no word on how long the social media network will hold on to deleted messages.
