“OnePlus 7 leaks pile up as CEO teases launch announcement”

OnePlus is expected to share details about its next launch event come Tuesday, as per a recent Tweet by the device maker’s CEO, Pete Lau. There is already word that the event will take place May 14 and that OnePlus may release at least two devices, likely called the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Among the already circulating rumors, Lau has also hinted at several new features for OnePlus’ upcoming 2019 flagship.

The tagline for the OnePlus 7 appears to be “Fast and Smooth,” which may refer not only to design but to function. Details from leakser, Ishan Agarwal suggest the OnePlus 7 Pro, in particular, may feature a Quad HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, possibly setting it up for marketing toward gamers. High refresh rates on displays are typically useful for minimal lag, or smooth performance.

The device may also be OnePlus’ 5G smartphone with other specs, including a USB 3.1 port, a 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp Charge, stereo speakers, and a triple camera set up with a standard lens, a wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens. Earlier rumors indicate the set up may comprise of a 48-megapixel lens, a 20-megapixel lens, and a 5-megapixel lens, but there is no word on the specific configuration of each lens. Our best guess would be a 48-megapixel standard lens, 20-megapixel wide-angle lens, and 5-megapixel telephoto lens.

Other reports spoke of a 16-megapixel pop-up selfie camera for the OnePlus 7 models, which would allow the device to have a display with no notches or hole punches to house the front-facing camera. Several recent leaks, including renders showcasing OnePlus 7 protective cases, double down on this feature.

The standard OnePlus 7 may feature a 6.5-inch display, while the OnePlus 7 Pro may have a 6.67-inch display. Hardware specs may include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip and Adreno 640 GPU, 8GB and 12GB RAM options, 128GB, and 256GB internal storage options. Alternate specs suggest a 6.2-inch display for the OnePlus 7 and a 6.64-inch display for the OnePlus 7 Pro, as well as 6GB and 10GB RAM options, and a 4,150mAh battery. For software, the device may run Android 9.0 Pie with OnePlus’ OxygenOS 9 overlay.
