“Samsung Galaxy Fold preorders may be back on track for June”

The Samsung Galaxy Fold may be back on track for release if recent reports are to be believed. The smartphone manufacturer has now resolved the display issues that forced it to delay the original April 26 launch of its foldable device, according to the Yonhap News Agency. If all goes well, the Galaxy Fold may now be ready for a June launch.

Unnamed sources have detailed that Samsung has now refashioned the Galaxy Fold to have its protective screen tucked under the edges of the device so it cannot be removed. Additionally, the manufacturer is expected to make the spaces between the hinge where the device folds smaller so that debris cannot get trapped under the display.

The original Samsung Galaxy Fold design allowed the foldable’s protective film to easily come off.

Reports also indicate that Samsung is testing the remodeled Galaxy Fold with Korean carriers ahead of its official relaunch. The manufacturer stated last week that it would soon have an update about the future of the Galaxy Fold. Rumors now circulating could suggest Samsung may be close to making a public announcement. Many are likely also curious to see whether the device will become available in early-June or later in the month.

Samsung racing against U.S. regulations

Samsung will likely have to move quickly if it wants to get the Galaxy Fold on the market, as there may serious implications surrounding its swift change in release plans. Because the Galaxy Fold was delayed ahead of its official release no handsets have seen sold to the general public. The device has only been sold through preorder.

Samsung sent customers a notice stating that their preorders were safe until the device was ready unless they decided to cancel the purchase on their own. However, Reuters recently reported that Samsung is required by law to notify customers that if the Galaxy Fold does not ship by May 31, they may lose their preorder if they don’t opt in to continue the purchase. While Samsung claims it has closed its preorders early due to high demand, there is no word on how many prospective customers have decided to continue with their purchases.

The original Galaxy Fold issue

Many were excited for the Galaxy Fold release, with tech journalists detailing the potential for the device, which doubles as a compact smartphone and tablet and features six camera lenses. However, that excitement quickly turned to bated disappointment as review models shared with select members of the media began to malfunction.

Several early users reported screens breaking after they removed a protective display film that wasn’t intended to be taken off. Some users had the screens on their Galaxy Fold models short circuit even without removing the film. After a number of folds, dirt would collect under the film and it would begin to lift itself, leading to the device’s ultimate demise.
