“Huawei’s latest smartphones showcase quad-cameras and Kirin chips amid US ban”

Despite Huawei’s current market woes, it is still very much developing new smartphones. Three such devices are the Huawei nova 5, the Huawei Nova 5i, and the Huawei nova 5 Pro, which were unveiled Friday in China, sporting respectively, the Kirin 810, Kirin 710 and Kirin 980 chips.

As per the U.S. business ban on Huawei, the company is unable to use components from former affiliates, such as Qualcomm. However, the Kirin 810 chip in the Huawei nova 5 recently appeared on the AnTuTu benchmark, being tested against the Kirin 710 chip and the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 premium mid-range chip.

The benchmark shows the heightened performance of the latest Kirin 810 in comparison to the other two chips, suggesting that Huawei’s device shouldn’t suffer performance wise during its industry blackballing. AnTutu also noted the Huawei nova 5 running Android 9 Pie, though the company reportedly did not focus much on software during the launch event.
