“OnePlus TV confirmed for September launch”

Chinese manufacturer, OnePlus recently confirmed that its upcoming SmartTV will be called the OnePlus TV and has now revealed that the product will launch in India in September. Availability details for other markets, including North America, are expected soon after.

OnePlus first spoke of its plans to release a smart TV last September. OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau detailed in a recent forum post that OnePlus TV will be a premium product with a focus on sound and features. Calling the TV a “smart social hub,” it is expected to have a major IoT focus.

OnePlus has not yet shared specs and pricing for the OnePlus TV but those details will likely be available in the coming weeks. It will also be interesting to see whether OnePlus has retail partners for the product in the U.S.

While OnePlus has primarily focused on smartphones and more recently, a few specialty audio products, there is no word on whether the company plans to expand its product repertoire to the likes of say, Xiaomi.

OnePlus and Xiaomi are somewhat opposites in the consumer electronics industry. OnePlus has broken into the mobile market, capturing even U.S. fans, but is only now branching out into other products. Xiaomi has done well with smartphones internationally but has not been able to grasp the U.S. market. Meanwhile, its many other gadgets are fairly popular stateside and can be found at U.S. retailers, such as Walmart.
