HTC’s latest VR option, the VIVE Cosmos is now available for preorder as of September 12 and will release globally on October 3, selling for $699. The new VR headset has a design update, new software, and several additional features to improve the virtual experience. Those who preorder the Vive Cosmos by October 2 will also receive a 12-month Viveport Infinity subscription with a redeem code included with the headset.
The HTC Vive Cosmos features 3.4-inch dual screens with singular 1440 x 1700 resolution and 2880 x 1700 resolution combined, the coveted 90 Hz refresh rate and a 110-degree field of view. Users can also benefit from its built-in on-ear stereo headphones.
HTC has done a lot to improve the VR experience, outfitting the headset with six camera sensors for ideal tracking both inside and out of VR. The headset’s design includes an attachment that also allows users to flip up and down to seamlessly come in and out of VR without physical issues. The headset also supports a sold separately wireless adapter, to allow for more freedom of movement.
The controllers on the HTC Vive Cosmos have also seen a resign to help with a longer and more comfortable experience in VR. The new external tracking mod that comes with the Vive Cosmos adds more support for those who still want to utilize sold separately lighthouse base stations.
HTC Vive Cosmos features USB 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 to enable its required PC connectivity as well as USB-C 3.0 peripheral ports to connect to its mods.
