“OnePlus aims to disrupt a new consumer space with OnePlus TV”

OnePlus has now expanded its product lineup to include TVs, having announced the aptly named OnePlus TV at its launch event in New Dehli, India Thursday.

This new foray is an interesting one, considering the brand’s primary focus on smartphones. Most of its other products have been auxiliary to mobile, such as its wireless headphones. However, TVs could potentially maximize the brand’s growing interest in display technology.

The OnePlus TV features a 55-inch 4K QLED display with a 120 percent NTSC color gamut, a 95.7 percent screen-to-body ratio, and HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support for apps, including Amazon, Sun NXT, Voot, Netflix, Eros Now, and YuppFlix. The TV also runs OnePlus’ Gamma Color Magic chipset, which enables a 60Hz refresh rate. The overall processor on the OnePlus TV is the MT5670 chip by MediaTek.

Other hardware includes 2.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and connectivity including HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Optical Audio input, Ethernet port, 3.5mm audio (with converter), USB-C, IR receiver, Dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0.

The smart TV will be available in two models, the OnePlus TV Q1 and the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro. The major difference between the two is that the Pro model features a soundbar, which includes eight speakers that slide down from the frame of the TV, providing 50W sound output. This highlights its Dolby Atmos audio support.

The OnePlus TV runs Android TV as its software system and a TV focused UI called Oxygen Play. The TV also supports Google Assistant and Alexa and can be updated with other features through OnePlus’ Connect app, which can add functions including TypeSync, Quick App Switch, Smart Volume Control, and Screenshots, among others.

The OnePlus TV will be available to consumers in India through Amazon starting September 28. The OnePlus TV Q1 will sell for Rs. 69,990 (about $986), while the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro will sell for Rs. 99,990 (about $1,409). There is currently no word on other availability for the smart TV.
