The OnePlus 7T Pro has been on the international market for just a few days, but there are already potential details surfacing about the OnePlus 8 Pro, which could be a 2020 device from the Chinese manufacturer.
A recent report and render leak from 91Mobiles and Onleaks suggests that OnePlus may update its front-facing camera design once more, possibly getting rid of the pop-up selfie camera, in favor of a display embedded lens set within a hole-punch on the upper left corner of the screen.
OnePlus used a new completely fullscreen design on both the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro this year. The displays on these devices featured no notches or holes to accommodate front-facing lenses or sensors. Instead, the Pro models featured popup selfie cameras that mechanically arose from the top of the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro handsets.
There may be several reasons that OnePlus may opt for a more traditional selfie camera set up moving forward. Primarily, reports suggest OnePlus may be looking to introduce more 3D Time-of-Flight technology to its devices in the coming year, which would assist with various biometrics functions and camera features. Others have noted while fascinating the pop-up selfie camera has proven a lot more fragile over time.
However, regulating product prices could be another reason for OnePlus getting rid of this unique feature. There is word that the OnePlus 8 Pro could sell for ₹49,990 about $700 for an 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage model.
The OnePlus 7T Pro sells for £699 in markets, such as the U.K. but there is no availability scheduled for the U.S. or Australia. Many were concerned about price increases in the Pro line after the OnePlus 7 Pro was announced in May, with a price bump that was usual for the brand until now. OnePlus has since been backtracking a bit on its pricing. If the OnePlus 8 Pro releases at $700, it would ultimately see no jump from the OnePlus 7T Pro, but would still be $30 more expensive than the original OnePlus 7 Pro.
There is no concrete word on whether the OnePlus 8 Pro will have U.S. availability, but PhoneArena claims the device may be compatible with the Verizon and T-Mobile (Sprint pending merger) networks. The device could be announced as early as January 23, 2020, with a number of specs, also revealed by 91 Mobiles. These include a curved 6.65-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a triple-lens rear camera setup, a USB Type-C port, and 165.3 x 74.4 x 8.8mm dimensions. There are also hints that the OnePlus 8 Pro could support 5G.
There have also been leaks of the standard OnePlus 8, showing that it may feature the same left side hole-punch design.
