“Motorola Razr release date tackles the first pocket foldable for $1,500”

The Motorola Razr foldable phone is now official with a nostalgic design, an interesting folding mechanism, and a $1,500 price tag. The device will be a Verizon exclusive that will be available for preorder starting December 26 and will go on sale on January 9.

After making a stop at the FCC Wednesday, Motorola unveiled its latest project, which has been building momentum all year. Despite its original summer launch plans being delayed, execs from Motorola’s parent company, Lenovo are confident than the device is ready for its market debut. The device has already received accolades for truly blending a small phone with a large screen and making it manageable and pocketable.

The new Motorola Razer features a 6.2-inch pOLED display when opened flat. Much like other foldable devices, it features a thin and fragile-looking plastic over the pOLED display. This setup, mechanized by a hinge allows the actual flexible display to loop instead of bend. However, there are reports that creases still appear at the device’s folding point. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes it so several functions, including watching videos, are ideally done in a horizontal positioning.

Still borrowing from the original Razr flip phones, this model also features a 2.7-inch quick view display, ideal for viewing notifications, devices stats, and Google Assistant.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip and a 2,500mAh battery, which may have been selected for a number of reasons. One could be a power-efficient option for Motorola backing up its “all-day battery life” claim. The truncated specs could also help to keep the overall price of the foldable, surprisingly on the lower end. In comparison to the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, which quickly sailed past $2,000 in price, the new Razr is a steal.

Other hardware includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone also features a 16-megapixel front-camera as its main lens, with f/1.7 aperture and a night vision mode, while a 5-megapixel fold facing lens is essentially the selfie camera. The new Motorola Razr runs Android 9 Pie for software, and also includes a fully functional Retro Razr mode Easter Egg that mimics the look of the 2004 Razr screen and keypad and says “Hello Moto.”

This model update channels a lot of the original model design-wise. It similarly features a prominent bottom chin, which now houses a fingerprint scanner, for a more modern spin, as well as various antennas, motors, and connectivity modules. Its sole color option is Noir Black.

Once available, the new Razr will sell at Verizon stores, as well as at Walmart in the U.S. Under Verizon’s payment plan, the device will sell for $62.49 per month for 24-months. Other markets expected to sell the new Motorola Razr include Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. The eSIM-powered device won’t be friendly about adjusting

As a safeguard, Motorola will offer a standard warranty, with 24-hour turnaround replacements, focusing on the display. Users will have to pay $299 for repairs if the device’s issues are not covered by its warranty.
