“MediaTek 5G smartphone chip now official with US device availability expected”

MediaTek recently announced its latest smartphone chip, the Dimensity 1000, which it aims to position as a premium option for 5G smartphones in the coming year.

Featuring a 7nm process CPU, the Dimensity 1000 includes a number of impressive specs overall. Its setup includes four Cortex A77 cores clocking in at 2.6 GHz and four Cortex A55 cores clocking in at 2.0 GHz.

It is MediaTek first with a 5G modem integrated into its architecture, with up to 4.7Gbps download speeds and 2.5Gbps upload speeds. The chip supports only sub-6 GHz frequencies and not the mmWave technology that is prevalent for 5G in the U.S; however, devices powered by the Dimensity 1000 are still expected to release for western markets.

The chip introduces to the market dual 5G SIM support, in addition to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 support.

Other processing highlights include its five core ISP (Image signal processor), which supports still images up to 80-megapixels at 24 shots per second, 4K video at 60fps, multi-frame HDR video. Display support includes 90Hz QHD+ and 120Hz FHD+. Memory goes up to 16GB for LPDD4x RAM.

Devices powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip are expected to release in China and other Asian markets first, during the first quarter of 2020, while devices for U.S. and Europe are expected during the second half of 2020.
