While many rumors about the OnePlus 8 are already circulating, the brand’s CEO has now shared details about the yet to be released 2020 flagship.
Pete Lau recent announced on the OnePlus forums that the manufacturer has developed a display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which he has called “the best you’ll lay eyes on in 2020.” The display will feature a QHD+ resolution, upgraded color accurate and control, and MEMC technology for enhanced video playback.
“We believe that the smoothest smartphone display must also be able to deliver a superior visual quality and viewing comfort,” Lau said in the statement.
While not explicitly connecting it to the OnePlus 8, many are certain this display will in fact be featured on the upcoming flagship. OnePlus made a splash last year when it introduced a 90Hz refresh rate to the OnePlus 7T. The quick upgrade isn’t exactly surprising, considering the OnePlus has steadily added new top features to its devices in recent release cycles.
With many rumors abound, there is a chance that the 120Hz refresh rate could be limited to only certain models of the OnePlus 8. Reports indicate that there may be a standard model, a OnePlus 8 Lite, and a OnePlus 8 Pro, which could leave optimal room for the brand to outfit its most advanced model with the highest specs. However, with the device’s release still months away, there is no telling how final models and features will unfold.
Other recent reports suggest that OnePlus has snagged a carrier partnership with Verizon and that the OnePlus 8 will be offered directly in its retail stores and will be powered on its 5G network. With what is known so far, the OnePlus 8 is shaping out to be a very interesting device.
