The last iPhone SE came out four years ago in 2016 and gave the market a mid-tier iPhone option. It was considered a success and sold millions of units that saved Apple from a steep sales decline. News on Apple’s latest iPhone has been circulating since last year. The rumored iPhone SE 2 will be a lower-cost iPhone with similar features as the current iPhone 11.
But now news on the phone has picked up once again and rumors are it’s aiming for a March release. With that being said, it’s the perfect time to go through the SE 2’s possible features.
Motherboard
The iPhone SE 2 models are reportedly going to be using a 10-layer Substrate-like PCB (SLP) for its motherboard. This is the same technology that’s being used for the iPhone 11s, and it seems like it will remain in use for future models. Multilayer PCBs are currently the standard for most modern phones, which have a high density of connections and a number of components, and SLPs are expected to dominate the future PCB market. Samsung is also reportedly using SLPs, and Huwaei, LG, and Xiaomi are expected to follow suit.
Color
The days where Apple embraced minimalism are long gone. While the company used to stick to white, black, and gray when it came to their devices, they’ve understandably made the switch to more colorful options. Since 2013 (the iPhone 5C), Apple has started producing colored iPhones as they’ve employed a slew of colors such as space gray, silver, gold, red, yellow, and midnight green. There’s no reason for Apple to back out on this choice with their newest phone so it would be safe to assume that the iPhone SE 2 will come in the same range of colors.
Camera
The iPhone 11 comes with an impressive dual-lens 12-megapixel rear camera. It is equipped with one f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view and an impressive 2x optical zoom out. It also supports 4k video up to 60 fps and 1080p slow motion that can capture videos at 240 frames per second. The iPhone SE 2 is rumored to have a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Considering that it’ll be well below the iPhone 11 price, this would be a good deal for smartphone users that are particular with their cameras. If it also retains the same features as the iPhone 11’s camera, this would put it near the top of the list of best smartphone cameras.
Price
Considering these features, along with the 3GB Ram and 64GB/128GB storage space, this iPhone is expected to be priced at around $449. This estimation stems from the fact that the SE 2 is believed to have no new features that aren’t present in Apple’s current line of iPhones. That price point would put it roughly around the middle of the spectrum when it comes to modern smartphones. And while that’s already pretty accessible in itself, it’s entirely possible that the iPhone SE 2 can even drop to around $399. If that happens, it’ll make it one of the most affordable smartphones on the market, which will surely lead to a bump in Apple’s sales.
