“Huawei P40 Pro+ leads new 5G smartphones series with major camera upgrades”

Huawei has announced its latest P40 smartphone series, which includes the standard P40, the P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+. The brand continues to push the boundaries of elaborate camera systems that have already been hailed by many product reviewers. This launch is bound to be quite interesting for Huawei, amid the current global health crisis and the continued U.S. software ban. Even so, the P40 and the P40 Pro are set to go on sale April 7 and the P40 Pro+ sometime in June.

No matter the model, the P40 series contains considerable photography power. The Huawei P40 Pro+ features an Ultra Vision Leica penta-camera set up, which includes a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel super periscope telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom, and 100x digital zoom, another 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a ToF depth sensor.

The Huawei P40 Pro features a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, with 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 50x max zoom, and a ToF depth sensor

The standard Huawei P40 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid zoom, and 30x digital zoom.

All three models feature a 32-megapixel front camera; however, the Pro and Pro+ models include a depth camera, which allows for hand-controlled navigation.

Among other specs, the Pro and Pro+ models feature 6.58-inch Full HD+ OLED displays while the standard model features a 6.1-inch display. All models are powered by the Huawei Kirin 990 chip, enabling 5G and feature 8GB of RAM. The Pro and Pro+ models will be available in 128GB and 256GB internal storage options while the standard model has only a 128GB internal storage option. Battery capacity for the Pro and Pro+ models is 4,200 mAh, with 40W fast-charging, while the standard model has a 3,800 mAh battery with 22.5W fast-charging.

All models run Android 10 with an EMUI 10.1 overlay. Notability, the devices feature an open-source version of Android with Huawei’s own AppGallery marketplace instead of Google Suite apps. Huawei has also sunset the 3.5mm headphone jack on its P line.

Once available, the Huawei P40 will sell €799 and the P40 Pro will sell starting at €999. The P40 Pro+ will sell starting at €1399. In addition to China, availability includes markets such as Europe and Australia.
