“Samsung Galaxy Note 20 release could include battery upgrade for base model”

Rumors about Samsung’s next premium smartphone, likely the Galaxy Note 20, have begun to surface. Reports reveal that the device could potentially feature a 4,000mAh battery.

The Dutch blog, Galaxy Club recently uncovered a part number EB-BN980ABY, for the base model Galaxy Note 20. Further details indicate a 3,880mAh capacity for the battery, which could easily be marketed as 4,000mAh on the smartphone. If accurate this would indicate a fairly decent upgrade from the 2019 Galaxy Note 10, which featured a 3,500mAh battery.

Samsung switched up its late-year launch strategy by announcing a truncated base model for the Galaxy Note 10 and also introducing Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G models that featured beefier specs and higher price tags. Some have noted that while the Galaxy Note 20 may have a larger battery than the Galaxy Note 10, but at 4,000mAh, it matches the 2018 Galaxy Note 9, which released as a singular device and not as apart of a series.

Samsung has shifted away from its past follies with the Galaxy Note 7 and is now focused on demonstrating different levels of flagship prowess, highlighting features, such as elaborate cameras and 5G. This has already caused some overlap between device families. The base model Galaxy S20 also features a 4,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S20+ features a 4,500mAh battery and the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G a 5,000mAh battery. Though unconfirmed, there is already speculation that other Galaxy Note 20 models with higher specs could also have higher battery capacities. The Galaxy Note 10+ and Galaxy Note 10+ 5G both featured 4,300mAh batteries.

Other early details suggest that a Galaxy Note 20+ model, in particular, could feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chip, at least 8GB RAM, and Android 10 software. The specs surfaced on Geekbench in early April for a device with the model number SM-N986U. Other speculations suggest a 12GB RAM option, as well as a 128GB internal storage option, and a 120Hz refresh rate for Dynamic AMOLED displays. Much like the S20 series, all models of the Note 20 series may all support 5G connectivity.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 20 series during the late summer to early fall timeframe, despite the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the globe. Currently, there is no indication as to whether the health emergency will effect Samsung hosting a public, in-person launch or if the manufacturer will opt for a live-stream event, as several other brands have done. For the past two years, Samsung has hosted its Galaxy Note launch events at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
