“LG Velvet details and live leaks debut ahead of May 7 launch”

There are considerable details circulating about the LG Velvet ahead of its May 7 unveiling, particularly from LG itself. The manufacturer recently shared on Korean social media channels that the smartphone is set to go on sale on May 15.

LG shared a number of new details about the Velvet, essentially unveiling the device before its actual launch date. LG confirmed its display at 6.8-inches with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio, its triple ‘Waterdrop Camera’ set up, which includes 48-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor, its Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip to enable 5G, and its 4,300mAh battery. The device will also support a stylus and an LG Dual Screen as sold-separately accessories.

The device is being marketed for its “luxury experience” despite it not being a flagship tier device. LG has previously referred to the device as “mass premium,” for including a design and several specs that are desirable to high-end consumers. However, the device is expected to beat most flagships for price. Rumors currently suggest a KRW 899,800 retail, which could translate to about $699 in the U.S.

LG also highlights a number of audio features for the Velvet, including ‘stereo speakers’ and ‘artificial intelligence sound’ that optimizes audio capture and playback.

The ‘Voice Out Focus’ feature is also included on the recently released LG V60, which allows users to focus on certain audio when recording video. New for the LG Velvet; however, is an ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) recording feature that allows users to take advantage of mic sensitivity to capture the unique style of content. The device also includes a ‘Time-Lapse’ recording feature.

LG has revealed these details to promote its “VELVETist” experience group, in which it will recruit 300 people to test out the LG Velvet ahead of its launch. The group seems comparable to Google’s Team Pixel or OnePlus’ fan experience. Registration for the group is currently open until May 7. The experience seems to be a local promotion for Korean consumers.

Meanwhile, leakster, Your favourite Chun shared live images of the LG Velvet in its black and white color options. The device in the closely resembles the press images shared and also reveals a lot of its internal makeup, including a coil that enables wireless charging.

Other, previously leaked features include 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, a USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.
