“Leak hints that Samsung Galaxy Note 20 could go from Pro to Ultra”

Leaks and rumors about the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 series have continuously surfaced, and the latest details suggest that Samsung may actually announce a model that previously was not expected in the pipeline.

Prior reports indicated that the Galaxy Note 20 series might be comprised of a standard Galaxy Note 20 model and a Galaxy Note 20 Plus model. However, the Plus model may be marketed as the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, as that branding has now surfaced within a Bluetooth SIG certification. This certification all but Bluetooth confirms connectivity for the smartphone and also indicates that the product may be fairly close to launch. The certification also pairs the model number SM-N986U with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra branding, when it was previously connected to Galaxy Note 20 Pro branding.

Despite the Bluetooth SIG evidence, many remain skeptical about a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra model hitting the market since rumors to far have leaned heavily on there being a Galaxy Note 20 Plus model.

Rumors about the Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera set up have also surfaced during this time, suggesting the device may include a triple camera setup with a 108-megapixel main lens, a 13-megapixel periscope lens, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide. The source, Ice Universe, also indicates the device may feature only 50x zoom, in comparison to the 100x zoom featured on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Samsung may also use a laser focus sensor instead of a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor on this model.

So far, most details indicate that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note 20 Plus could be referring to the same device. Pundits have noted that many features, including a large display, RAM, and internal storage sizes, as well as 5G connectivity, would leave little to differentiate a premium Pro model from a super-premium Ultra model.

Proposed specs for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra include a 6.9-inch WQHD+ LTPO display with a 3040×1440 resolution and 120hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Samsung Exynos 992 processing chip, 12GB and 16GB RAM options, 128GB and 512GB internal storage options, a 4500 mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and better sensors for the latest S-Pen stylus.

However, others have noted that if the Galaxy Note 20 Pro and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are different devices, the latter could potentially feature a display larger than 7-inches and a battery larger than 5,000mAh. That could also leave room for an even more elaborate camera system. There are other big possibilities for differentiation as Samsung is expected to release separate 4G and 5G models within the Galaxy Note 20 series. The Korean manufacturer launched its Galaxy Note 10 series in a similar fashion in 2019, announcing a standard Galaxy Note 10 model, a Galaxy Note 10 Plus model, and a Galaxy Note 10 5G model, which was essentially a Plus model with extra connectivity.

Full confirmation of these Galaxy Note 20 details may not come until August when Samsung is expected to launch its new series in an online-only event. Usual plans to host a launch at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY have been scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
