“PS5 release and specs highlight design and game titles for upcoming console”

The PlayStation 5 is now official as of Thursday as Sony announced the new console, its basic features, and several upcoming games in an online launch event. So far, we know there will be a standard version and a digital edition that won’t require disks for gameplay.

The more detailed launch follows Sony’s unveiling of its new dual shock controller in April. Currently, its market launch has been roughly set for the holiday season of 2020, and price details have not yet been revealed. Prior reports from Bloomberg have suggested that the console may sell for more than was originally intended due to the lockdown and quarantines caused by the pandemic. The digital edition is also expected to cost less than the standard PlayStation 5 model due to its lack of a 4K Blu-ray drive.

Specs for the PlayStation 5 include custom an 8-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2-architecture CPU at max 3.5GHz and an AMD Navi/RDNA 2-family GPU with 36 CU at 2.23 GHz and supporting up to 10.3 TFLOPS. Its based level includes 16GB GDDR6 video memory and 825GB SSD memory with NVMe slots and external USB drive support. The console will also support 8K or 4K at 120fps video output.

Sony also previewed over 25 games that will release for the PlayStation 5, with Godfall and Spider-Man: Miles Morales being some of the highlight titles. The console maker also confirmed that an “overwhelming majority” of PlayStation 4 games will have backward compatibility with the PlayStation 5. Check out some more details on PS5 games below.
