“Xiaomi’s latest 80W Mi wireless charging promises full power in under 20 minutes”

Xiaomi has now introduced 80W Mi Wireless Charging as its latest iterationĀ in its charging technology.

The Chinese manufacturer claims that this protocol will be able to charge a 4,000 mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in just 19 minutes. Additionally, it can add a 10 percent charge to a device in 1 minute and a 50 percent charge in 8 minutes.

The brand has been heavily focused on showcasing its prowess in fast charging in recent years. This new technology comes just one year after Xiaomi introduced its 30W Mi Wireless Charging, which can charge a device to 100 percent in 69 mins or to 50 percent in 25 minutes. Xiaomi has also showcased 40W and 50W wireless charging in 2020; however, pundits wonder whether such wireless charging speeds are even necessary.

Apple’s recently announced 15W wireless charger has already gotten a stamp of approval from tech industry experts. Similarly, many Android devices continue to impress with fast wireless charging capabilities between 10W and 15W.

It is likely such high powered wireless charging won’t become the standard any time soon. Most consumers appear perfectly happy with wired charging, especially when fast charging is included. While brands are also increasingly experimenting with faster and faster-wired charging, the current standard is around 30W.

Still, it is interesting to know the technology is there. There have been leaks indicating that Xiaomi is working on 100W wireless charging, which will be able to charge a 4,000mAh battery from zero to full in 17 minutes. In terms of getting products to market, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra features 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, putting the device in a league of its own.

It remains unknown if or when 80W Mi Wireless Charging will come to Xiaomi devices.
