Samsung may be looking to expand the Galaxy S21 lineup with a Fan Edition, which could release in the later half of the year.
SamMobile recently shared details about the prospective smartphone, including its model number, SM-G990B. The device could have a number of truncated specs to help get its price down; however, it is expected to power 5G and run Android 11 out of the box, much like its flagship siblings.
Sources told the publication the Galaxy S21 FE may sell in 128GB and 256GB internal storage models as well as in gray (or silver), pink, violet, and white color options. Outside of these details much about the 2021 Fan Edition smartphone remains unknown. Pundits are wondering whether the device would also lose notable features that have been axed from the main Galaxy S21 models, including expandable storage, Samsung Pay functions, and in-box accessories.
Some other possible spec differences for the Galaxy S21 FE could be less powerful processor options. Perhaps the device won’t inherit the updated camera module seen on the current S21 models. It will also be interesting to see how Samsung differentiates between the Galaxy S21 FE and the standard Galaxy S21 in terms of design. While the Galaxy S20 FE is essentially a Galaxy S20 with a polycarbonate plastic backing, the standard Galaxy S21 also features a plastic design. It’s possible the Galaxy S21 FE could have different finish as well as a different display size, perhaps larger than the standard Galaxy S21.
