“Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC Rumored for Launch in Second Half of 2021 with AMD Radeon GPU”

Samsung’s next Exynos processor will likely be announced during the second half of 2021, according to recent reports coming out of South Korea.

Korea Economic Daily reported on Sunday that Samsung has plans to launch a new mobile application processor, which will be outfitted with an AMD Radeon GPU. It will be used to power ARM-based Windows 10 laptops, as well as smartphones and tablets.

Other media outlets believe the SoC will be called the Samsung Exynos 2200. The chip will likely run in 2022 devices including the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy Tab S8, and the Galaxy Z Fold Tab.

Samsung confirmed its partnership its AMD in January. Rumors then suggested that the companies might not have any solid products to showcase until 2022.

The AMD Radeon GPU was specifically designed for low-power devices, while the Exynos 2200 is expected to be built using the 5-nanometer processing technology. The chip may also support 5G, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6E.

“The new Exynos will offer improved functions, including extraordinary computing power and battery efficiency,” an industry source told Korea Economic Daily.

Samsung is expected to compete with the likes of Apple and Qualcomm with its upcoming Exynos 2200 chip. Apple launched its mobile computing for laptops M1 chip in 2020, while Qualcomm launched its latest Snapdragon 8Cx chip in 2019. The Exynos 2200 chip is set to be the first non-Qualcomm ARM-based chip for Windows 10 laptops.

Currently there is no word on exactly when the chip may be announced.
