The Motorola Edge 20 series is set to be unveiled early next week as the Lenovo-backed brand announced its launch event on the Chinese social media platform Weibo on Monday. The event will take place on August 5 at 7:30 p.m Beijing time (7:30 a.m. ET) as per the shared press invite. It is safe to say the event will take place virtually.
The series is expected to include the Motorola Edge 20 and Motorola Edge 20 Pro, which will succeed the original Motorola Edge line that launched last year. Rumors suggest there may also be a Motorola Edge 20 Lite in the series. There is no word on when the devices will go on sale, but global availability is expected.
Though they are set to be flagship branded, the Motorola Edge 20 series is expected to be more mid-range. The devices have been certified by the TENAA, which has revealed specification details that are being assumed as accurate. There have also been a number of specs, and image leaks from sources, including Pricebaba, Steve Hemmerstoffer, and Evan Blass.
The Motorola Edge 20 is expected to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a centered hole punch, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor chip, 6GB and 8GB RAM options, 128GB and 256GB internal storage options, a 4,000mAh battery, and Android 11 software. Its triple rear camera setup is expected to include a 108-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom. Its front camera is potentially a 32-megapixel lens.
Other possible features include a USB-C port at the bottom of the handset, as well as a microphone, speaker, and SIM card slot. There is a second microphone on the top of the handset, but no 3.5mm headphone jack on the device, as per leaked renders.
The Motorola Edge 20 Pro is also expected to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a centered hole punch; however, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip. It is also expected to have 6GB and 8GB RAM options and 128GB and 256GB internal storage options. It is set to be powered by a 4230mAh battery with 33W fast charging, but camera details about the device have not been made available.
