“Oppo Foldable and Rollable Smartphones to Launch Soon”

The Chinese smartphone brand Oppo has many flexible display smartphone options in its pipeline.

First, the manufacturer is set to announce a foldable codenamed ‘Peacock’ in mid-December. Meanwhile, it might unveil another device sometime next year. This will likely be a handset with a rollable display codenamed ‘Butterfly.’

Details about the foldable sourced from the Chinese social media platform Weibo and Yash Raj Chaudhary of EqualLeaks, indicate that the device might favor the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in design, featuring an 8-inch inward-folding LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The foldable might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and might include a 4,500 mAh battery with 65W fast charging. Its camera setup might include a 50-megapixel main camera and a 32-megapixel front camera.

Oppo’s rollable device doesn’t have that much detail available in terms of overall hardware specs, however, graphic designer Parvez Khan, aka Technizo Concept developed product renders based on a patent that was published by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on November 4, 2021. The patent for ‘Display device’ especially details the function of the rollable display and how the gears and rollers inside the device move to make the mechanism work smoothly.

Oppo gained design patents for a slider phone, and a phone with a vertically extendable screen last year. Additionally, the manufacturer showcased its rollable smartphone concept at INNO Day 2020. These plus the more recent patent developments are all indicators that Oppo is very serious about getting their new technologies to market.
