“Will Samsung Kill Galaxy S22 Ultra for a New Galaxy Note?”

There are many speculations surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, especially its premium model, which is expected to feature a built-in S-Pen stylus.

Rumors have indicated that the series would include standard Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Pro, and Galaxy S22 Ultra models, with the Galaxy S22 Ultra being the device to include a stylus; however, there is now a rumor that Samsung might introduce a device adding “Note” branding to the Galaxy S series.

Twitter Leakster @FrontTron recently shared that the high-end model in the Galaxy S22 series will likely not be the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, but rather the Samsung Galaxy S22 Note. Ever since more evidence that Samsung would include a built-in stylus on its premium Galaxy S22 model surfaced, many have been wondering what would happen to the Galaxy Note series. Samsung has insisted it has no plans on retiring the popular smartphones series. However, it appeared that Note’s reign was over since Samsung’s foldables have taken over the late-summer to fall launch slot that previously belonged to the Galaxy Note line.

While this rumor cannot be confirmed, it could make sense. Indulging the idea, Samsung introduced stylus support for the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021; however, the S-Pen was not built-in and was sold separately. Samsung also introduced S-Pen support for its Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable this summer under similar stipulations, no onboard storage, and it is sold separately. Maintaining a built-in stylus design as a Note feature could be a great way for Samsung to differentiate the smartphone from others in its lineup, especially during a time when its fate remains uncertain.

The Galaxy Note series was always seen as a niche line for Samsung to test new features before introducing them to the Galaxy S line. Over time, the Ultra model has seemingly taken that space, releasing features that are strikingly different than the other two models but might become standard over the coming year. There is a feeling that the Ultra models were made in the spirit of the Note series overall. Even CAD and live leaks reveal the similarity in looks that the premium Galaxy S22 model has to older Galaxy Note models.

Either way, a device believed to be the Galaxy S22 Ultra/Galaxy S22 Note was recently discovered on the Geekbench benchmark, running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. It was found under two model numbers, SM-S908N and SM-S908U, which might represent models for different markets, perhaps Korea and the U.S. In addition to showing the processor performance of each model, the benchmark revealed they run Android 12 and have 10GB and 8GB of RAM respectively.
