The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to have a y-axis “hotdog style” design, much like its predecessors. However, the also upcoming Google foldable, possibly the Pixel Fold, is rumored to take on an inner display design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) claims that both devices will have inner foldable displays of similar sizes, but that is where the similarities between the devices end. The devices are set to have different aspect ratios, with the Google foldable rumored to have an 8:5 (or 16:9) ratio. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 aspect ratio remains unknown; however, the current Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a 25:9 ratio. The ratios would make the Galaxy Z Fold 4 taller and thinner, if it were similar to that of the Z Fold 3, and the Pixel Fold shorter and thicker.
Young also expects the Pixel Fold display cover to be smaller at 5.8-inches, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 display cover is expected to be 6.19-inches. Overall, the general idea might be when looking at Google’s foldable, it might appear like a mini Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The analyst added that there will be more news about the foldables and their displays at the DSCC conference next week.
The Pixel Fold has long been compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line; however, some rumors suggest that Google might seek inspiration from other foldables that are also well received in the industry. The Oppo Find N is one such device, which also features an inner foldable display with a 8:5 (or 16:9) aspect ratio and a smaller cover display. Rumors also suggest the Pixel Fold might have no display crease in the middle, much like the Oppo Find N.
Still, it is likely the Pixel Fold might take on feature similar the to the Galaxy Z Fold line, such as stylus support.
