“Google to Collab with Samsung on Third Gen Tensor Chip”

Google’s third proprietary chip might already be in the works, according to a report from GalaxyClub.

The brand is said to be developing a processor under the model number S5P9865, which falls in sequence with the other chips in Google’s Tensor line. The first Tensor chip falls under the model number S5P9845, while the Tensor 2 chip has been attached to the model number S5P9855.

More so, Google might be testing the third generation Tensor chip on a developer board with the nickname “Ripcurrent.” We’ve previously seen the Tensor 2 chip developed under the nickname “Cloudripper.” This is what seems to have peaked interest in the rumor.

Google is likely collaborating with Samsung in the development of the chip as it has done with prior Tensor chips. Notably, the Pixel 6 series uses a modified version of Samsung’s Exynos 2100 chip as the original Tensor chip, SamMobile said. The Exynos 2100 first powered the Samsung Galaxy S21 series in various international markets.

Many note that the rumor has surfaced quite early to be taken to be too serious. However, if accurate the chip in reference could be the Tensor 3, which could potentially power Pixel devices in late 2024.

Currently, Google is preparing to launch its Pixel 7 series, which is expected to release in October. There is word that the Tensor 2 chip in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro has an architecture that is not as powerful as competitor chips on the market due to being based on even older Samsung processor, according to Android Authority.

Whether Google and Samsung will remedy this in future chips remains to be seen. However, we know, that despite being marketed as flagship devices the Pixel series don’t have the price point of devices with more powerful processors.
