“Samsung’s Next 200-Megapixel Camera is a China Exclusive”

Samsung’s next 200-megapixel lens is the ISOCELL HPX, which was recently announced as an exclusive for the Chinese market.

The component, which was developed by Samsung System LSI, includes support for 12.5-megapixel and 50-megapixel resolution modes with the help of Tetra 2 Pixel binning technology as well as 8K video recording at 30 frames per second among its highlight features.

Other specs for the ISOCELL HPX include Other features available for the 200MP ISOCELL HPX include 8K video recording at 30 frames per second, 4K and FHD recording, dual HDR, Smart ISO, and Super QPD autofocus, SamMobile noted.

With a focus on pixel count, in addition smaller, 0.56-micron pixels and sensor that is 20 percent smaller than its predecessor, the ISOCELL HPX is a camera that will like perform best in ideal lighting conditions. Its binning process than can bring its resolution down to 12.5-megapixel and 50-megapixel modes and can help in low-light conditions. However, this might be one of the reasons the lens won’t be seen in devices outside of the Chinese market.

The camera is a followup to the ISOCELL HP1, which released in September 2021. Samsung’s first 200-megapixel lens has been seen in smartphones such as the Xiaomi 12T series.

Current rumors suggest that Samsung finally has plans to move from a 108-megapixel main camera to implementing a 200-megapixel lens on its upcoming Galaxy 23 smartphones series but by the looks of it the ISOCELL HPX lens won’t be that camera. There’s no word on whether Samsung plans to use the ISOCELL HP1, as reports from industry informant, Ice Universe, also suggests that the brand might not include a 50-megapixel mode on its 2023 flagship, only a 12.5-megapixel mode.

Its currently uncertain whether Samsung might modify the ISOCELL HP1 or introduce a new lens for the Galaxy 23. There have also been rumors of a ISOCELL HP2 lens. However, no details about the Galaxy 23 can be confirmed at this time.
