“Google Pixel Fold Leak Reveals Camera Details, Price and Release Date”

The latest leak of Google’s upcoming foldable gives a high definition look at the device’s design, after at least three major development changes.

YouTuber Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech shared on Monday image renders of the current design model of the Google foldable, which is reportedly codenamed “Felix.” The images show a device with a look that is pretty common for foldables so far. It does favor the Oppo Find N, which has a wide aspect ratio, in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which is taller and more narrow.

Coupled with the visuals, Front Page Tech claims the foldable might feature a 9.5-megapixel camera for its cover display shooter. This is expected to be an under-display camera, which will also allow front antenna lines to flow seamlessly in the front of the device. The rear camera set up is housed in a rather prominent hump that is curved and reminiscent of the camera module design seen on the Pixel 7 Pro. Included in the in the camera set up is what looks like a flash and microphone. There is also a “G” logo right below the rear module.

The inner camera is encased within a bezel, which spans around the perimeter of the screen. It is also expected to be a 9.5-megapixel lens. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst, Ross Young added to FPT’s report that the folded display will likely be 7.57-inches, while the cover display will likely be 5.78-inches and both are set to be manufactured by Samsung Display.

The leak also shows a USB-C port, various holes that might indicate speakers, in addition to mmWave antenna, and a rather prominent metal frame and hinge. So far the device has been shown in Chalk (white) and Obsidian (black) color options. Some of these specs are updated from what was previously rumored.

This model comes after the prior models, Passport and Pipit circulated in foldable rumors for at least the last two years. Reports suggested that Passport was a basic prototype while Pipit had the potential to be the device to release to market. Pundits have colloquially referred to the device as the “Pixel Fold.” However, there are murmurs that Google has considered names including “Pixel Notepad” and “Logbook.”

FPT claims that the foldable could be announced in May 2023, which might coincide with Google’s next I/O Developers conference. The device might also cost $1,799, which is the original release price of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Fold 3.
