“Samsung TV Partnership Sees Subscription Option for Smarter Lighting Experience”

Samsung is expanding its ongoing partnership with Philips Hue, which introduces a subscription tier to its Philips Hue Sync TV app paid service.

Philips Hue is known globally for its smart lighting options. The brand and Samsung have been partnering since last year. This allows those using Samsung TVs with integrated Philips Hue lighting to control said lighting features with the Philips Hue Sync TV app, which is further upgraded through its streamlining to Samsung’s SmartThings connected living platform. The app allows users to control their smart lighting features on a TV screen.

Users can handle the Philips Hue Sync TV app from a Samsung Galaxy smartphone and are able to use the integrated SmartThings platform to adjust brightness of the Philips Hue lights on their TVs, switch between Video, Game and Music modes, or turn light sync on or off while content is still playing. SmartThings integration allows for even more convenience for users, including synchronizing lighting across devices and using air purification controls on the Philips Hue Sync TV App.

Originally, Philips Hue offered a one-time opt-in pricing of $129.99; however, the brand is now also offering a monthly subscription option for the Philips Hue Sync TV app, for $2.99 monthly.

“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with SmartThings to empower users with greater control over their entertainment experiences,” Philips Hue Business Leader, Jasper Vervoort said in a statement.

“The integration of Philips Hue Sync TV App into the SmartThings ecosystem allows users to create immersive multi-device entertainment routines, enhancing their smart home experiences like never before,” he added.

Availability of the Philips Hue Sync TV app will also soon expand to countries including Brazil, Hong Kong, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, as part of Samsung plans for global access for SmartThings.

The Philips Hue Sync app is compatible with TVs including the Samsung Neo QLED, and QLED TV Q60 models or later.
