Samsung’s rumored Galaxy S25 series is expected to see some solid upgrades in desired specifications, including RAM and storage as AI becomes a more solid feature on smartphones. The Galaxy S25 Ultra in particular is expected to see bumps in hardware to meet these upcoming needs.
A recent leak supplied by informant Jukanlosreveon on X, detailed the expected hardware details of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which hasn’t seen an upgrade since at least 2020. The Galaxy S20 Ultra launched that year with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, but has been downgraded to 12GB of RAM in subsequent models.
The leakster shared that Samsung’s premium model would be available in three tiers– consisting of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
While the base model of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be the same as the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, the subsequent tiers will be getting much desired RAM and storage upgrades. Pundits note if Samsung follows through with this upgrade scheme it would put its 2025 devices on par with the devices including the Google Pixel 9 Pro and the top tier OnePlus 12.
Still, Android Police noted Samsung remains behind the curve of many Chinese manufacturers, such as Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo sell their base model smartphones with 16GB RAM. The publication added with Samsung’s reputation in the mobile industry, if it made its introductory device a 16GB RAM model the option would likely become the standard for all Android flagship smartphones. However, the brand’s decisions may ultimately be determined by a mix of earnings projections and analysts’ estimates. Samsung would have to decide if it is fiscally responsible to commit to such a change.
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S25 series in late January 2025. Reports indicate the brand is set to host a Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco on January 23.
