“Google to preview upcoming Android features ahead of I/O”

While Google I/O is set for later in May, the Android division is planning to showcase its upcoming developments a week earlier in an online pre-show that will highlight what’s in store for Alphabet’s software side.

The company teased an event, called The Android Show: I/O Edition, which will take place on May 13th at 10 a.m./ 1 p.m. ET on Google’s YouTube and the Android website. Hosted by Android ecosystem president Sameer Samat, the event will usher in an announcement of new experiences for the Android operating system.

While the 30-second teaser didn’t include any spoilers, pundits noted that we can expect the Android team to share details about the upcoming Android 16 release. The Android 16 software is currently in beta, and prior previews have revealed that the software will re-introduce lock-screen widgets as a feature, in addition to messenger apps now having AI-generated notification summaries, new tools for secure health data management, and other features that strengthen software security, PC Mag noted.

A Google PR representative also told the publication that the brand will have “more updates in keynotes and technical sessions for developers” at the I/O main event.

Google confirmed in February that it’s I/O developer conference would take place on May 20th and May 21st at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. In addition to the in-person events, there will also be livestreamed keynotes and sessions. The developer landing page indicates that I/O will have a focus on Android, AI, Chrome, and Google Cloud. Some also suggest the brand could drop some hardware teasers for the Pixel 10 smartphone series and the Pixel Watch 4 wearable.

The company also often has some never-before-seen technology to unveil at I/O, and the same may be likely for The Android Show. We look forward to all that is coming with the developers conference.
