Google has confirmed its latest usage figures for the Gemini chatbot at its I/O keynote on Tuesday, indicating that the app hosts 400 million monthly active users.
These are some of the first official figures released by the brand since Gemini launched in December 2023, showing that the AI app has seen steady growth since its inception. Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, noted that users have especially been engaging with the 2.5 models on the chatbot, and that usage of the 2.5 Pro model within the Gemini app has increased 45 percent since it was first announced in March.
In addition to its chatbot figures, Google shared details about developer usage, noting over 7 million developers utilize its services between AI Studio and Vertex. Additionally, with increasing AI integration into Google Search, the company has over 1.5 billion users accessing its AI Overviews feature, which gives a summary rundown at the top of applicable search results. In addition to AI Mode, which is now publicly available to iOS and Android users as of today, Pichai indicated that Google Search provides “generative AI to more people than any product in the world.”
Google’s usage figures update for the Gemini chatbot app comes not long after a prior report from The Information indicated the company saw 350 million monthly active users and 35 million daily active users as of March 2025. Reports suggested that Gemini was lagging behind revival apps such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which CEO Sam Altman confirmed had 500 monthly active users in early April, and the Meta AI platform, which is ranked at 700 million monthly active users as of January 2025.
However, showing Google the culmination of people using Gemini-powered services may show a different story. While OpenAI’s CEO remains coy about whether ChatGPT has hit a one billion weekly active users milestone, Google has come forward with some solid figures.
