The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 may be a hardware powerhouse with 16GB of RAM for its standard model, according to analyst, Ross Young.
The DSCC CEO explained in a recent interview that both the rumored standard Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Plus may feature this RAM capacity. While unconfirmed, the specs are plausible, considering the Note series is marketed toward productivity-focused users that require high-powered devices. Many have already used this rumor to compare the Galaxy Note 20 series to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which also features 16GB of RAM. Reports have also indicated there will likely be no Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and this could potentially be another reason why.
Still, the Galaxy Note 20 models may differ from the Galaxy S20 Ultra in terms of internal storage capacity. Early reports suggested a base model of 128GB of internal storage for the upcoming device, while the S20 Ultra has a 512GB of internal storage model. There’s is currently no word on larger storage options for the Galaxy Note 20 series, but these details remain iffy, considering the Galaxy Note 10 series featured 256GB of internal storage for its base models.
The brand has been using its premium device families to experiment with different configurations for different price points, so Note 20 series may get the same treatment. There is also word that the devices may also come in distinct LTE and 5G versions. Nevertheless, the RAM details are backed up by the fact that Samsung has been mass-producing 16GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM modules since late February.
In addition to a beefy RAM capacity, the Galaxy Note 20 series may also feature the latest in-display fingerprint scanner technology from Qualcomm. Young also detailed that the semiconductor manufacturer may soon announce its 3D Sonic Max biometric sensor as an update to the 3D Sonic sensor that has been used on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S20 series. If accurate, the new biometric technology may allow for a scanning space 17 times larger than what is allowed with the current technology. This could improve authentication accuracy on the Galaxy Note 20 devices, which would be a plus as Samsung devices have been heavily critiqued for their finicky in-display fingerprint scanners.
