Several details about a new OnePlus mid-range smartphone have surfaced in recent days. The device, possibly called the OnePlus Nord is gearing up to be a pretty solid return to the brand’s flagship killer roots.
A new report by Android Central indicates the OnePlus Nord may feature a dual-lens front camera, despite prior leaks suggesting the device may have a single-lens camera in front. The blog learned that the setup has been finalized as the design that will release to market. It will include a 32-megapixel main lens and an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, which will be situated at the top left corner of the phone’s flat display.
Leakster, Max J backs up the report with details that the previous renders shared in April were of a since scrapped concept design of the device. The earliest rumors of the OnePlus Nord suggested that it would be called the OnePlus 8 Lite, but there is word that its release may have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if they don’t share the same series branding, the upcoming smartphone will have a dual-screen front camera set up in common with the OnePlus 8 devices. However, many have noted its left corner placement is similar to devices in the Huawei P40 series.
OnePlus is gearing up to show off its new device as the brand has announced a launch event for July 10. It has also opened a new Instagram page dedicated to this new product era, as well as a product landing page for its Amazon India store. The smartphone is set to launch first in India and Europe.
OnePlus is also planning to launch a four-part docuseries on June 30, sharing the ins and outs of developing this product, which is set to stand as an inexpensive 5G option at a time when many premium OnePlus devices rival other top smartphone manufacturers for price.
Most are certain the upcoming device won’t be called the OnePlus 8 Lite, and rumors are shaky as to whether it would be called the OnePlus Z. It appears the most likely name for the smartphone will be the OnePlus Nord. Though, some have suggested the branding could be “Nord by OnePlus.” Overall, OnePlus hasn’t yet outwardly confirmed the device name. The one hint toward Nord branding has since been deleted.
In addition to front camera details, rumors suggest a triple or quad lens rear set up with a 64-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The potential fourth camera could possibly be a macro lens.
Other hardware for the OnePlus Nord may include a 6.56-inch 90 Hz display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip, 8GB of RAM (there may also be a 12GB option), and 128GB of internal storage, a 4,300 mAh battery with 30W Warp Charge, 5G connectivity, and Android 10. The device may sell for as low as $299. There is also word that it could sell for ₹24,990 ($330) in India.
