Reports indicate Samsung plans to outfit more devices in its Galaxy A series with a water-resistance rating in the coming year. Details from The Elec claim that the Korean manufacturer plans to release more smartphones for its mid-range line to stand out against Chinese competitors. Samsung is already well known for including water-resistance on its premium devices, including the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series, and recently introduced the feature to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable.
So far in 2021, various markets have seen models including the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, Galaxy A52s 5G, and Galaxy A72 release with an ingress protection, IP rating. The IP rating system determines how long an electronic device can be submerged underwater, and how much dust it can withstand. Overall, there are nine devices in the Galaxy A series with either an IP68 or IP67 rating.
Galaxy A devices that are expected to feature water resistance include the Galaxy A33, according to SamMobile. The model is expected to have an IP67 rating, which will allow it to be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
The Elec said Samsung plans to use a new simplified production process to help reduce costs. This process “use membrane materials and waterproof silicone,” to seal microphone, speaker, and charging port in order to achieve IP level water resistance.
Other 2022 Galaxy A smartphones expected to feature water resistance include the Galaxy A23, Galaxy A53 5G, and Galaxy A73 5G. Details about their IP ratings have not yet surfaced; however, the Galaxy A53 5G, and Galaxy A73 5G have been showcased in CAD renders, while rumors suggest the Galaxy A23 might feature a 50-megapixel main camera.
