Samsung’s 2022 foldable lineup is now official with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 having been announced on Wednesday. Both devices will release to the market on August 26 with pre-orders currently available. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 starts at $1,799, while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 starts at $999.
Samsung detailed at its Unpacked launch event that the Galaxy Fold project took eight years to go from prototype to a viable product ready for sale.
Since then, the brand has launched two styles and four generations of foldables, noting that just three years ago, the category did not exist on the market.
Here’s what Samsung has to say about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Samsung highlighted during its launch event, the slim and redesigned hinge on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The brand said it had gear components on previous models but implemented a new rotation effect in order to reduce the size and weight of the newest device. To further slim down the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung added a layer of digitized plastic as opposed to one of metal to reinforce the foldable display.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 introduces Android 12L and One UI 4, with features, such as a dedicated taskbar, which hosts the most used apps. The foldable will be the first to run Android 12 out of the box.
Samsung also showcased the triple rear camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which includes a 10-megapixel telephoto lens, a 50-megapixel wide-angle main lens, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. The brand has optimized its lenses with 23 percent brighter nightography and improvements to space zoom. Additionally, the device features a 4-megapixel lens under the foldable display and a 10-megapixel lens under the front screen. Both of these are considered front-facing cameras.
Other hardware features on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 include a 7.6-inch foldable display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB flash storage options. The 1TB storage option is said to be available only online. The foldable features a 4,400mAh battery with 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging.
For connectivity, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports 5G, and Bluetooth 5.2. It includes Nano SIM card slots and an eSIM. The device is IPX8 certified as water resistant and features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Its color options include Gray-green, Phantom Black, and Beige. There is also a Burgundy, which is a Samsung.com exclusive.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

The brand discussed how it has improved the quality of third-party app features, such as Instagram and Facebook reels, Facebook stories, and Messanger video chat with improvements to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 camera, and other unique features such as its ability to capture images hands-free.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 includes a 12-megapixel wide angle lens and 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens for its rear set up and a 10-megapixel lens for its front-facing camera.
With a wider cover screen, users can preview images and video, including portrait mode shots. The screen also allows for viewing notifications, controlling the Smarthings app from outside of the home, and Smart pay. Other software features allow users to schedule Google Meet calls from their Calendar.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is available in matte finishes, including Graphite, Pink Gold, blue, and Bora Purple. Its Bespoke Edition also comes in five body and three frame colors, to allow for a number of different color variations. It features an aluminum frame with a slimmer hinge, improved ultra-thin glass (UTG), and IPX8 water resistance.
Other hardware features on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 include a 6.7-inch foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, a 1.9-inch cover display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB flash storage options, a 3,700mAh battery with 25W wired charger and 15W wireless charger.
The device also features Android 12 with One UI 4, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, face recognition, Nano-SIM, 5G, and Bluetooth 5.2.
Galaxy Z Fold 4 /Galaxy Z Flip 4 Other Details
Samsung also noted it will include one year of its Samsung Care Plus insurance service to those who preorder the Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Samsung did not mention S-Pen stylus support for either the Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Galaxy Z Flip 4.
