Truecaller Assistant has released in the U.S. for Android and iOS as a machine learning caller ID option to aid smartphone users more efficiently screen their calls to determine who is calling and why.
The brand claims that caller ID has not lived up to its promise with 86 percent of surveyed American smartphone users saying they only answer calls from people or businesses that they know. In turn, they choose to not answer calls from numbers they do not recognize.
Truecaller utilizes “machine learning, speech-to-text, and natural language processing technologies,” which allows its Assistant feature to work like a “digital receptionist” for users to screen calls as they come in, according to the brand. Truecaller claims its technologies ensure at least 90 percent accuracy in speech detection and can ask users to repeat themselves if there is a misunderstanding.
When you receive a call, you are able to select on your phone to decide whether you want the Truealler Assistant to take over answering. In this case, you will receive a live text transcription of what is being said and can determine if you want to answer the call, send it to spam, or screen the call further by asking for more information. This interaction reads like a text message on your end and you can also hear what the caller has to say.
The brand notes that Truecaller Assistant is a great option for screening out spam calls, but can also help users with the overcorrecting of avoiding spam calls by aiding in identifying unfamiliar numbers that might be important, such as a child’s school, an airline, hotel, or a known merchant.
Truecaller Assistant is available as a 14-day trial as part of the Truecaller Premium service in the U.S., after which it will be available for $4.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly. Truecaller also offers an ad-free option for $9.99 monthly, which includes many of the same features as the Premium version. The Truecaller free option includes in-app ads.
Currently, Truecaller Assistant will be available in English in the U.S., however, the brand says it plans to roll out its Premium paid version to other markets and languages soon.
