“‘Home Alone’ with Google Home recreates 1990 classic movie scenes with modern smart assistant”

‘Home Alone’ is considered a Christmas classic, and Google tapped right into fan’s nostalgia by releasing an ad paying homage to scenes from the 1990 film.

Actor, Macaulay Culkin reprised his role as Kevin McCallister for the holiday ad and shared the spotlight with several Google Home products and services. We see Kevin getting his ‘house to yourself’ schedule for the day from a Google Home Hub. While shaving, Kevin adds aftershave to his shopping list through the Google Assistant on his smartphone. The scene is a throwback to the original movie where an 8-year old Kevin uses his father’s shaving supply and screams when the aftershave burns.

While jumping on a bed and showing some signs of age, Kevin asks a Google Home Mini to remind him to wash the sheets later. While watching the fictitious film ‘Angels with Filthy Souls,’ Kevin converses with a pizza delivery man at his front door and is able to see the person from the screen of his Google Home Hub. He uses the signature ‘Home Alone’ line “keep the change ya filthy animal.”

Kevin uses Google Home to turn the temperature down two degrees in the house and commands, “Hey Google, begin Operation Kevin,” which sets off a chain of automated smart home booby traps, comparable to moments from the original ‘Home Alone’ where two crooks attempted to break into the McCallister house.

From outside, we see a van driving away and hear Joe Pesci who played the burglar, Harry Lime in the movie saying “We better get out of here before somebody sees us.”

When questioned on Twitter on why Kevin supposedly still lived at home, Culkin responded that he was just house-sitting. Overall, the ad was a hit with over 12 million views on YouTube and over 10 million views on Culkin’s Twitter profile.
