The 59th Super Bowl took place this past Sunday with the Philadephia Eagles taking home the championship title, beating the Kanas City Chiefs 40 to 22. While the big show included many thrilling moments, at-home spectators also got to enjoy entertaining commercials that aired during the big game.
There are several common brands that air commercials during the Super Bowl. However, many more technology-based brands are also taking the opportunity to make themselves known during football’s biggest night. With trends such as artificial intelligence, wearable technology, cybersecurity, and health tech, becoming ever more prominent to everyday buyers, the Super Bowl is a prime opportunity for companies to showcase brands and their products to a wide range of consumers.
Reports indicate that advertisers have shelled out up to $8 million for spots during this year’s Super Bowl, up from $7 million the year prior. Meanwhile, Fox is projecting that the big night brought in a record-breaking 126 million viewers between television and streaming platforms. This is up from 123.7 million people watching the prior 58th Super Bowl, which was confirmed to be the most-watched TV telecast of all time.
With all of those eyes on their products and services, there’s no doubt tech brands that aired commercials during the Super Bowl will benefit from the visibility.
Google aired a commercial called “Dream Job,” highlighting a man prepping for a job interview, using Gemini Live AI assistant to field questions. Previously anxious he begins to use his experience as a father as why he would be ideal for the job.
Meta
Meta’s commercial for its Ray-Ban Meta Glasses features actors Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt, and socialite Kris Jenner. It showcases Pratt using the smartglasses to find out information about an expensive piece of artwork of a banana taped to a wall. The two Chrises scramble after Hemsworth has eaten the banana.
OpenAI
OpenAI debuted its ad live at the Super Bowl, so there was no preview of the commercial online beforehand. The ad, called “The Intelligence Age” postured the brand’s ChatGPT technology among history’s greatest inventions, including agriculture, fire, sea navigation, aviation, medicine, broadcast television, space travel, and the internet.
Bosch
Bosch’s, a brand known well for home appliances, aired a commercial featuring actor Antonio Banderas and wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Savage was struggling to open a pickle jar and Banderas offered to assist and easily popped the jar open.
T-Mobile
T-Mobile announced its partnership with Starlink in a commercial during the Super Bowl, detailing its beta program for a space-based satellite service that will allow improved connectivity for remote areas. The service will automatically connect to already running devices. T-Mobile is offering a limited-time trial to test the service on any wireless carrier for free, until July, noting that AT&T and Verizon are also included.
GoDaddy
Domain registration and web-hosting brand, GoDaddy aired three TV spots during this year’s Super Bowl. The first is a racing-themed commercial. The next features actor Walton Goggins using a new service called GoDaddy Airo. The third showcases Goggins explaining that GoDaddy Airo is an AI-based professional website-building platform for businesses.
Squarespace
Squarespace, another registration and web-hosting brand, also created three ads for the Super Bowl this year. The teaser featured actor Barry Keoghan riding the donkey, Don Mosley to the tune of Irish folk music. The second spot shows the two in a pub with Keoghan creating a Squarespace website for the donkey to bolster his acting career. The third ad, shows the two strolling along the Irish countryside with Keoghan throwing laptops at locals with Squarespace webpages loaded.
Zeam
Free streaming app Zeam aired a commercial featuring actor, John Stamos, who casually states the brand doesn’t need a celebrity spokesperson to say that their service offers free streaming of local news, events, and original programming.
Disney+
The Disney+ Super Bowl commercial poses the question of what if there were no films and TV shows from the favorite series, such as Star Wars, The Simpsons, The Incredibles, The Fantastic 4, The Bear, The Lion King, Serena William’s championship games and others, noting some of their notable quotes or plot lines from the media.
Tubi
Tubi is another free streaming app that aired a commercial featuring an expectant couple at a doctor’s appointment, having a sonogram. The sonogram reads 2.9.25, the date of the Super Bowl.
Instacart
Online grocery delivery service, Instacart aired two commercials for the Super Bowl featuring several well-known brand mascots, including Cheetos’ Chester Cheetah, the Energizer Bunny, The Kool-Aid Man, Mr. Clean, and ‘The Old Spice Guy’ Isaiah Mustafa. The first teaser shows Mustafa explaining that the Instacart app can be used before the game. The second ad shows a barrage of mascots making a bash through a city toward a stoop of home, where they transform into their brand forms and fall into bags of delivered Instacart groceries.
DoorDash
Online food delivery service, DoorDash aired two commercials for the Super Bowl, with the theme “DashPass Math,” featuring comedian Nate Bargatze. In the first ad, Bargatze discusses with his concerned financial advisor the things he’s been able to purchase with the money he has saved by using DoorDash’s DashPass membership program. The second ad shows Bargatze doing DashPass Math in his head to calculate how much he’s saving by using the membership.
Uber Eats
Online food ordering service UberEars airs a commercial featuring mogul Martha Stewart and singer Charli XCX playing the viral game “We listen and we don’t judge.” At one point Charlie says, “I thought a Super Bow was something I could order on Uber Eats.”
Pentera
Cyber security firm, Pentera aired an ad within the Boston Area featuring its “goat” cybersecurity manager Gary Grit, who discussed how he became the “scapegoat” when his company experienced security breaches. However, was able to turn his image around by using Pentera’s services.
NerdWallet
Online financial services company, NerdWallet aired two commercials during the Super Bowl. The first ad features, “Richard” who is on an ocean tour where a guide explains that Beluga whales are as smart as a human genius. When he drops his phone in the water, it is collected by a whale, voiced by actor Kieran Culkin, who explains to him that NetdWallet can help you find the right credit card. In the second ad, the whale, Richard reads a pamphlet about Beluga whales, when the whale appears again, confirming that whales have the IQ of a human genius. Richard is shocked but the whale pretends that it’s normal for a person to see a talking whale.
TurboTax
Online tax processing service TurboTax aired a commercial called “Now Taxes is So Sweet” featuring actress and writer Issa Rae, attempting to navigate doing taxes “the hard way.” She wakes up from a dream when she receives a virtual call from her tax consultant letting her know he’s received her tax forms, and that he will complete her taxes.
Hims & Hers
Online health brand Hims & Hers aired a commercial called “Sick of the System” highlighting the challenges of obesity and its effort to affordable weight loss care with medications and treatment plans.
Booking.com
Online travel planning website, Booking.com aired a commercial featuring several Muppets characters, including Kermit and Miss Piggy on vacation, no doubt having planned their excursions through the website. We see them on the beach, at a boutique hotel, a water park, and Las Vegas hotel, with the announcer saying that the service offers free cancelation.
Rocket
Online mortgage lender Rockage aired a commercial featuring different family situations, including a pregnant mother, kids playing in a pool, a baby being bathed, and other scenarios– with the caption “We’re bringing America home.”
