Update 8/3
New reports from popular leakster, Evan Blass, suggest that the Galaxy Fold may release to international markets on September 27; however, the foldable device may be available before that date. According to SamMobile, Samsung is having a limited-access VIP presale in Korea, where between 140 and 165 Galaxy Fold handsets will be available. This presale is expected to take place between September 11 and 16.
Details double down on Samsung’s plans to host a relaunch event on September 6, likely in South Korea, though the Galaxy Fold is also expected to make an appearance at IFA.
Original story
The Samsung Galaxy Fold could release as soon as September 6, according to a recent report from Yonhap News. If accurate, its first availability will likely be in Korea. There are also hints of an impending release in China and the U.S., with the latter possibly seeing availability on September 14.
Samsung launched a pre-registration webpage for the foldable smartphone in China last week, allowing prospective buyers to sign up for more information on the device’s release and availability. The manufacturer has since launched a Galaxy Fold pre-registration page in the U.S., suggesting that consumers stateside may also soon have access to the device.
Other reports have noted that the IFA tech conference in Berlin also starts on September 6, which could strengthen the murmurs that Samsung may showcase the Galaxy Fold at the industry convention. We noted in July that IFA could be a good option for the device’s relaunch so that it wouldn’t overshadow the Galaxy Note 10 release.
While Samsung has previously confirmed its plans to relaunch the Galaxy Fold in September, the company has not shared specifics. However, with the launching of the pre-registration pages, Samsung has revealed that consumers will get a pair of its fully wireless Galaxy Buds. Additionally, Samsung Galaxy Fold will sell with a slim protective cover, a power cord and adapter, a SIM card pin, and a MicroUSB dongle.
Max Weinbach of XDADevelopers recently shared that Samsung will be offering trade-in deals for the Galaxy Fold but there are also no details on this development. We expect the Galaxy Fold will maintain the $1980 price that was originally announced in February, with Samsung potentially announcing other deals that could bring the price of the foldable smartphone down. Preorders for the Galaxy Fold are not yet available.
