The latest news indicates the device will have more display enhancements and a new storage standard, among many other tweaks, which may make the OnePlus 7 Pro the company’s most premium smartphone to date.
While there has already been considerable buzz around the device’s rumored QHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, new reports indicate the OnePlus 7 Pro will support HDR10 content. OnePlus confirmed the device’s support HDR10 content to Android Authority and detailed that it will announce at the OnePlus 7 launch, a partnership with Netflix and YouTube to provide color optimized content for its next flagship.
This further solidifies that the smartphone will have a focus on its high-quality display. In the past, OnePlus has outfitted its devices with more basic displays to keep costs low, but the OnePlus 7 Pro is already gearing up to be a costly product.
Rumors suggest price tags between $725 and $770, with leakster, Ishan Agarwal having shared prospective prices for the OnePlus 7 Pro in India. The 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage model may sell for ₹49,999, while the 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage model may sell for ₹52,999, and the 12GB RAM, 256GB internal storage model may sell for ₹ 57,999. There is also already Amazon pre-registration available for the OnePlus 7 Pro in India, with deals offering a ₹1,000 gift card and six months of screen replacements for free.
OnePlus has also confirmed the new UFS 3.0 storage standard for the OnePlus 7 Pro, which will likely make the device one of the fastest smartphones on the market. The company has been teasing about the “smoothness” of the OnePlus 7 Pro for weeks, and now CEO, Pete Lau has detailed that the device will have increased speed and power efficiency due to its UFS 3.0 chips.
The new flash storage standard performs faster read-write functions at a lower power consumption than the current UFS 2.1 storage. The XDA Developers team noted that other recently launched devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S10+, Huawei P30 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 9, all feature UFS 2.1 storage chips, despite being among the highest quality and priciest flagships currently available. OnePlus’ move in implementing the new standard for the 7 Pro notes its dedication to truly entering the premium smartphone space.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold smartphone was supposed to be the first device to market with UFS 3.0, but with the device’s launch delayed for the foreseeable future, the OnePlus 7 Pro will take the spot of having introduced the faster storage standard.
While OnePlus has outfitted the 7 Pro is several new technologies, the company remains bullish about not having its devices Ingress Protection rated for water and dust resistance. Much like older models, the OnePlus 7 Pro won’t feature an IP rating, though OnePlus insists that the device will be specially sealed and have other measures to make it as water resistant as possible. The company has explained that is forgoes the Ingress certification because it would add cost to its devices that would be passed down to consumers. According to Pete Lau, OnePlus devices would be about $30 more expensive with IP certification.
This thinking seems slightly out of touch at a time when OnePlus is more heavily promoting its 7 Pro model, that may be up to $200 more expensive than its most recent OnePlus 6T, which released for $549 last October. The company does plan to release a standard OnePlus 7 model, which will have less powerful specs and features than the Pro model and a price tag more in line with what can be expected from the Chinese manufacturer.
