“LG G8X ThinQ doubles down on anti-foldable dual-screen trend with US availability”

LG’s latest dual-screen device is now official, with the LG G8X ThinQ set for a November 1 market release. The device will have a preliminary launch on Sprint, AT&T, and Amazon, with preorders starting October 25. Other carriers and retailers are expected later.

After the LG V50 launched earlier this year, ushering in this unique form factor, LG has doubled down that it will move on a dual-screen route, as opposed to foldable smartphones. Unlike some other manufacturers, LG is actually calling the LG G8X, a dual-screen “smartphone.” LG has detailed that a welcome reception to the form factor in its home market has urged the Korean device marker to bring its dual-screen phone to the U.S. and other international markets.

The LG G8X ThinQ smartphone itself is fairly standard by way of LG smartphones. It features a 6.4-inch FHD + OLED display with a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip and includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 2TB. It’s camera configurations include a 12-megapixel standard and 13-megapixel super wide, dual rear lens set up and a 32-megapixel front lens housed inside a teardrop notch.

It’s sleek and glossy finish closely resembles the original LG G8 ThinQ, however, it is slightly larger, with 159.3 x 75.8 x 8.4mm dimensions and 192g weight. It also runs a 4,000mAh battery.

Other notable features include USB-C with USB 3.1 compatibility, Quick Charge 3.0, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. LG noted that while the LG G8X handset is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance and MIL-STD-810G standard, the LG dual sceen accessory is not.

The inner dual-screen matches the LG G8X screen as a 6.4-inch FHD + OLED, while the outer screen is a 2.1-inch mono configuration, ideal for time and notifications. Users can insert and connect the LG G8X into the dual-screen via USB-C. The accessory’s 360 Freestop Hinge allows for several maneuvering options.

The LG G8X ThinQ and its dual-screen accessory will sell as a bundle with unlocked pricing set at $699.99 and carrier pricing set around $300, depending on the deals and discounts from individual networks.
